After years of inaction, people around the globe are finally starting to take notice of all the damage that we have done to the planet and our environment. People are taking action and trying to go green to help in anyway they can. Unfortunately, as a people, our technology has significantly damaged our natural environment. Think about the smoke pouring out of our factories and our car exhausts and think about all the trees we cut down. Environmentally friendly products are sprouting up around us, and most will over the years in addition to keeping the environment green, will end up keeping our pockets green with savings over the years.

If you don’t know where to start in terms of helping the environment and doing your part, you can start right from your home. You can improve your energy efficiency in a variety of different ways. One of the most significant, as well as one of the easiest, is to replace your old windows with new green windows. Old windows are not sealed and insulated properly, which allows your costly energy usage to flow outside. You’ll have to keep the heating and cooling running longer and your costs will go up. This also wastes energy that doesn’t need to be burned. Old windows also are not fitted with the Low E glass available in today’s windows and doors, giving the the “R” Factor rating available today.

So what exactly is a green window? It’s more than just a replacement window of any kind, but it can actually encompass a variety of different factors and come with many different benefits. The most basic of which is that green windows are designed with additional insulation and superior seals to keep energy loss to an absolute minimal level.

Another factor that separates green windows from other windows is the materials they are built with. They are most commonly constructed at least partially from recycled materials and they are manufactured in processes that are energy efficient. Additionally, green windows let in more natural light to your home. You can then save even more energy by keeping your lights off and getting by with sunshine.

You can easily find out yourself the merits and qualifications of different companies and brands by checking into how they are made, what they are made from and looking for any certifications they may carry. Certifications could include SFI, FSC and GreenSeal depending on what the window is made from. It’s a way to ensure that what you are buying is environmentally friendly, which will help the world and help your budget as well.

Everybody is talking about the environment, about global warming and about going green. But talking about it isn’t enough, it’s a very important time and we all have to take action and do our part. We can do this by keeping our homes green and efficient. An easy and effective way to do this is by replacing your windows with new green windows.
