PV Solar Panels: A Bright Future

Published by under Energy Saving

PV solar panels were actually developed to provide electricity for missions in space. They are now used in over 100 countries and are the fastest growing source of natural electricity in the world.

London has decided to unveil their new solar heating and cooling program that would create 25,000 green jobs generating over $2 billion in revenue. New York has plans to become Americas leading cities in solar energy use. Many other countries and cities are following the example of these great leaders.

The word photovoltaic has two parts. The first part is photo which is the Greek word for light and the second part of the word is volt which relates to electricity.

Semiconductors such as silicon are the most commonly used photovoltaic cells. Sunlight hits the cells and is absorbed into the semiconductor material. The absorbed light is then transferred to the semiconductor loosening electrons, allowing them to flow freely creating energy that is turned into electricity. Electricity is used to power anything from a laptop computer to a cellular phone.

Modules are a group of cells fit into a frame connected electrically (known as a solar panel). Depending on the quality and production of the solar panel, the amount of electricity generated varies. Physical wear can reduce the level of operation and efficiency. Modules are used to release electricity at the desired voltage. One of the most common is the 12 volts system. Currents are produced depending on the amount of light that hits the module.

New technology introduces more durable designs as development in the solar field continues. Modern living is more demanding of our natural resources and requires continuous advancement in the growth solar energy.

More and more people are aware of the importance of using renewable, natural resources like solar energy. PV Solar Panels come in all shapes and sizes. New designs and models come out every year. There is much to look forward to in the world of solar energy. Technology is booming and the advancements in this field are excelling daily.

Chi Flow in the Garden – Feng Shui

Published by under Feng Shui

In order to give a different slant to the idea of Chi flow in the garden, I’ve substituted beneficial Chi flow and described it as a ‘wondrous little character called Chi’. Straight out of the imagination Chi becomes a wondrous little character that wisps and wasps around our surroundings. It flits and flickers from place to place and may choose to stay longer and is content to be in harmonious surroundings. It definitely avoids places that aren’t supportive to it and these could be described as sha or detrimental Chi places. My little character represents beneficial or Sheng Chi energy.

The little character has great qualities when it’s present. We can absorb its beneficial energies and become uplifted. The energies strengthen us and nullify the negativities that may have been pulling us down.

From the gardeners prospective, the little character likes to be where it can freely move and call the place home. A few suggestions can be listed to assist the creation of such places:

- Beneficial Chi energies move in a meandering fashion, i.e., avoiding straight lines

- Chi energy is responsive to all impacts whether sha (negative) or sheng (beneficial or positive)

- Mystery, charm and complexity enhance positive Chi energy flow and provide opportunities and diversity for the little character to find a home

- Beneficial Chi revolves around life, sounds, smells and movements. Ideally not one dominating

- Beneficial Chi is transformed by places that are moderated in shapes, colours and textures

- Our little character likes places not extreme but balanced in temperature, light and shade

- And finally it likes to move in spaces that don’t entrap it. Enjoying smooth, gentle and free transition from one space to another.

The wondrous little character doesn’t like to be frightened by rapid change preferring things to be settled and at peace with their surroundings, much like a natural place free from intrusion. It can be allusive which suggests if we want Chi to return for longer periods we need to re-tune our site for it and accept beneficial Chi flow isn’t a permanent feature of the garden, and enjoying the experience when it’s present.

I hope you enjoyed reading my article as much as I enjoyed pondering over and writing it. For more related topics and complete eBook Publications, please visit my website Feng Shui Garden – a Modern and Unique Concept to Feng Shui and Harmonious Chi Within the Garden and Our Lives. Regards, Ross.

How to Conserve Energy and Money on Your Air Conditioning

Published by under Energy Saving

There are many affordable ways to stay cool during the hot summer months without running your air conditioner 24 hours a day. Keep reading for 7 alternative tips that are sure to save you money this summer.

1. Get shaded.

Installing sun-blocking blinds and shades will keep your rooms from heating up in the hot afternoon sun. An opaque roller shade will keep out about 80 percent of the heat gain, while standard Venetian blinds can block about 45-50 percent.

2. Use a ceiling fan.

A ceiling fan set to turn counterclockwise will help cool air rise, pushing it up off the floor. Using a fan instead of an air conditioner can save a lot of money. If it’s too hot during the day, try relying just on a fan at night.

3. Don’t cool the house when you’re not at home.

If you’re going to be away from your home for more than a few hours, turn your thermostat back up and close the blinds. You’ll save more energy turning your air conditioner off than the amount it will take to cool the house back down when you get home.

4. Isolate your thermostat from heat sources.

True story – my air conditioner ran constantly and my house was freezing. I couldn’t get it to read the right temperature until I realized the thermostat was on the other side of the wall from my refrigerator. The heat being thrown off by this giant appliance was totally skewing my thermostat readings. Keep heat-releasing devices away from your thermostat.

5. Clean your air conditioner’s condenser.

The condenser unit in your air conditioner is the part that sits outside your house. It needs to be clean to work efficiently. Before you start cleaning, shut off the electricity at the unit’s disconnect switch and on your main switch panel (and inform other home members not to touch it until you turn it back on!). Once the power is off, remove the access panel. With heavy gloves on, clear out any loose debris inside the unit. Finally, use a hose and soft brush to wash the outer fins and coils. Turn the fan with your hand and make sure it rotates smoothly.

6. Close the registers in your basement.

Most basements are naturally cool, being insulated by soil, and often dark and shaded. Closing the registers in your basement vents will make more cool air available to the rest of the house and save you money.

7. Recycle your air conditioner refrigerant.

Having the refrigerant in your air conditioner recharged and recycled at least once every two years can dramatically increase the efficiency of your unit. Always consult an HVAC professional when attempting to do this.
