Many of us have troubles trying to find certain things in our home because it is so disorganized. If you are tired of this than it is time you did something about this. Begin by getting rid of the dishes from all of the cabinets and separating them into varying piles of glasses, plates, bowls, lids, pans, storage containers, food, and medication.

Before you are ready to sort through anything you need to take a peek in each drawer and cabinet and remove the dirt caked inside. If you have not already, you need to set down a few sheets of paper or other types of lining along the shelves. This will keep things from falling over.

The spices are normally kept in the cabinet that is over the stove. This keeps it close at hand when you need to have it and because the spices are little they don’t call for much space. This is also a good place for you to keep all of your medicines so that no children are able to reach them.

The bowls, plates, and saucers should have a cabinet all to themselves. This makes them easily handy when they are with each other like this. The cooking pans must also be in a single cabinet to themselves. Make a point to stack them and set paper towels between them so the tops of them are not scratched.

Sort through the storage containers and stack them in order and put them in a cabinet of their own. Try to keep the lids in a big bowl or container where they can be kept together and are never lost.

Lastly are the cups. Place all of the glasses and mugs in a kitchen cabinet of their own. Each one needs to be facing downwards and in line with each other. Don’t over stuff things or they are more likely to fall out when somebody is pulling it out.

There are a number of different Cabinet Designs that you can use to help remodel your home.
1.One thing at a time! When taking on a home improvement project, it’s best not to overwhelm one’s self. It’s important to pick your battles one at a time. Doing a complete kitchen remodel can be costly and time consuming. This article will focus on an easy cabinet renovation for just about any level of do-it-yourselfer. You can save the floor, counter top, and appliance replacements for further down the road. We are choosing to renovate the existing cabinet boxes for two reasons, a) simply the cost, and b) the existing boxes have more longevity than anything on the market today that would replace them.

2.Paint the cabinet boxes.Older homes generally have dark heavy stain on them. To remove or refinish the stain would be rather time consuming with limited results. The easiest and most dramatic course is to paint the cabinet boxes. This can be a plain white for easy upkeep and repair, or something more colorful for a more contemporary look.

3.Replace with new doors. One of the biggest obstacles with a cabinet renovation is how to salvage damaged doors. They rarely line up well and often times are chipped, cracked or just plain abused. The most effective way to solve this is to replace them with a stunning raised panel door in any of a variety of hardwoods or simply use a paint grade door that you can match or accent the color you painted your cabinet boxes.

4.Adjustable new hinges.Once you’ve elected to replace your doors, now it’s time to decide what kind of hinge you will want to use. A typical face mount hinge leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to installing and aligning your doors. They leave zero room for adjustment just shy of bending and tweaking them to fit your needs. A wonderful alternative is a euro style hidden hinge. Many of these offer various degrees of adjustment with some offering up to 6 ways of adjustment to make sure every door fits just right!

5.And new drawer fronts.Along with replacing your doors, you will also be replacing your drawer fronts to match your new doors. This can lead to a whole new set of problems. Will you be able to simply remove your existing drawer fronts? Even if you can, do the drawers still work properly? Or do they stick and grind on old hardware that is worn out? Not to worry, there are solutions for that as well.

6.New boxes and slides.A lot of times you will find yourself fighting with a drawer on a regular basis. This can be frustrating and at times when company is around, it can also be embarrassing. When renovating your cabinets, also take the extra step to replace your old worn out drawer boxes and slide hard ware. You’ll be glad you did!

7.Painting the interiors. One area that tends to get over looked is the interiors of your cabinets. When renovating your cabinets, be sure to address this area too. Painting the interior of your cabinets can make the insides look like new. This really complements all the time money and effort you put into the exteriors. Again white is the easiest to work with but an accent color can be exciting too!

8.Removing the shelf paper. Is the shelving paper old, dated, and tore-up? Then it’s probably time to go! The easiest method for removal is to use a simple household hair drier. This is just the right temperature to loosen the glue. You can also use the assistance of a putty knife for those more difficult areas.

9.Maybe shelf replacement?Maybe the shelves themselves are sagging or warped. Now is a good time to replace them. ¾ inch melamine is a good choice for a strong durable solution. And future cleaning will be a breeze!

10.Sink cabinet bottom replacement. One last problem area you will may like to address is right beneath the sink. The one place that you store a good number of cleaning agents that can do damage when left sitting for long periods of time. Or possibly you had a leaky sink at some point. This spot too can be remedied with a 1/4 inch overlay.

There is a wide variety of color and finishing options for kitchen cabinet refacing. There are both solid colors and a variety of wood grain finishes to choose from. Some are very simple patterns and others are more decorative. The quality and cost vary according to the finish material used in refacing the cabinetry.

Cabinet Refacing Materials

There are three basic materials used in most kitchen refacing projects. These are plastic laminates, wood veneer and rigid thermofoils. Plastic laminate is the least expensive option. It also has the lowest quality in overall appearance. The wood grains aren’t very convincing. It’s fairly easy to tell the difference between the laminates and natural wood, even from a distance.

Wood veneer looks more realistic than either plastic laminate or rigid thermofoil. It is the most popular choice for adding the beauty and warmth of wood to the kitchen. It is also the most expensive option in refacing. Wood veneer is available in nearly every wood tone. The most popular are maple, oak, birch and cherry woods.

Rigid thermofoils are the newest material used in remodeling cabinetry. These consist of fiberboard material covered with a pressure molded vinyl foil. There are fewer solid colors and wood grain choices in this material. The wood grains are more realistic in appearance when compared to plastic laminates at a distance. The look isn’t as good when you are looking at them close up.

Rigid thermofoils are much more pliable than laminates. They can be molded into a wide range of styles. This gives more decorative options in the look of the cabinet doors. They can be molded into raised panels or arches. More detail can be added with this material. The cost is higher than plastic laminates, but lower than wood veneers.

Other Kitchen Cabinet Refacing Options

In most cases, the hinges and drawer tracks are not replaced. Depending on their condition, you may want to consider having them replaced during the remodeling. If drawers are no longer opening smoothly, it is a good idea to replace the tracks. Some people opt for new drawers, rather than using the old components with new fronts. The cost is higher, but not considerably.

Other updates can be easily done at the same time. This is a good time to replace the countertops. The old ones will need to be taken out and put back anyway. If the counters are in good shape, it’s not a problem to put them back. If they are worn or not really what you want in the new kitchen, this is a good time to invest in new ones.

The sink is another consideration. It will also need to be taken out. Whether the sink is not in the best shape, or you just don’t like it, replacing it at the same time won’t add significantly to the overall budget. Sinks are generally not very expensive, depending on the type and material used. This is a good time to have a new sink installed. New sinks and counters will give your kitchen a complete makeover.

Kitchen cabinets are one of the most prominent features in your kitchen. If your cabinets are looking worn or drab, it affects the whole look and feel of your kitchen.

The good news is there are several options available to you that can easily update your kitchen with a modern look. Some options are expensive and others are more economical.

If you like the cabinet layout and the cabinets are in good condition, refacing or resurfacing your kitchen cabinets may be a good choice for you.

Refacing or resurfacing consists of replacing the cabinet doors and drawer fronts with new ones and then treating the cabinet frame with a matching veneer. There are many types of woods and plastics available for this, so your options are virtually unlimited.

To get the best results, it’s always best to hire a professional to do this work. It can be quite expensive, though, ranging anywhere from $3500 to over $10,000. The work usually takes 2-4 days, depending on how many cabinets and drawers are involved.

If your cabinets are weak or damaged or you just want to change their design, replacing them entirely is another option. Replacement cabinets may not cost much more than refacing/resurfacing them, either. Brand new cabinets can add more usefulness to your kitchen and increase the value of your home, as well

If resurfacing or replacement of your kitchen cabinets doesn’t fit your budget, there are much less expensive alternatives.

My first choice for renewing the look of kitchen cabinets is paint. What a difference a coat or paint can make!

For a retro look you can use splashy colors such as pink, turquoise or orange. Be brave and paint designs on the cabinets or use stencils or a faux finish. Add some matching hardware and you’ve got new cabinets for less than $300!

Another idea is to permanently remove all the cabinet doors. This wouldn’t be appropriate or even functional for every style of kitchen. It might work well for a cottage kitchen design or even an antique Victorian design. You could line the shelves with lace or doilies that flap over the edge to add to the look.

An alternative to completely removing the cabinet doors is to replace them with old windows that are the right size. You could also create new doors from different types of materials such as bamboo or fabric.

Another idea for resurfacing kitchen cabinets is to wallpaper them or apply contact paper. A plain pattern is best and, of course, make sure it is washable. You don’t necessarily need to cover the whole surface. You could cut out different shapes or patterns and apply them to the cabinet surface. This would be a good short-term solution to freshening up your kitchen.

So there you have it. There are many ways to make your kitchen cabinets look great without breaking the bank!
