Know Your Options When Choosing Lawn Mowers

Published by L.A. Remodeler under Yard Equipment

With a renewed focus on environmental awareness, many people are changing the way they do things around their house. Many of the environmental campaigns are focusing on what individuals can do around their homes to make a positive impact on the overall environment. One of the simplest ways people are being encouraged to improve things is by switching lawn mowers. The traditional mowers produced by companies like Husqvarna and Toro are still excellent options for people to get a great looking lawn, but the same companies are also producing more environmental friendly models that use less gas, or no gas at all.

One of the more popular models of lawn mowers that have made a big revival in the past few years is the single reel walk behind mower. This style is what people used to mow their lawns with before the gas powered versions were made available. They do a great job cutting the grass, but they are extremely heavy and not very forgiving on uneven ground. They are also tough to adjust, but they are the most environmental friendly option.

There are also pure electric lawn mowers that are charged up and powered by a battery. These are a good option for people that are looking to replace their gas powered mower without losing the feel and power they are used to. These mowers do no put any harmful emissions into the air like gas powered version do. They can hold a good charge when at full capacity, but people with larger lawns might not be able to get their mowing done in one session.

Whether you choose an environmental friendly mower, or you stick with the traditional Toro or Husqvarna, it is important to maintain all lawn mowers to keep them running in their optimal condition. Making sure each tire is properly fit and keeping the blades sharp are very important. Blades that have become dull can be sharpened, or replacement blades can be installed. Some of the traditional gas powered mowers are also coming out with models that are more efficient. This can allow people to still have the type of mower they want, and reduce their carbon foot print.

The advantages of owning a rechargeable lawn mower are clear to those who have explored them or shopped around. Benefits of mowing the yard with these include no refueling mess, no reoccurring price of refueling and no dangerous carbon dioxide pollutants.

How to Use Lawn Rollers

Published by L.A. Remodeler under Yard Equipment

Many people find it extremely hard to create the perfect lawn and wonder how their next door neighbor manages to have a beautifully manicured lawn only 10 feet from their disappointing excuse of a lawn. Well, the secret ingredient that they might be using are lawn rollers. Lawn rollers are an excellent garden tool that can make a huge difference to the quality and finish of your lawn. They can improve the color and look of your lawn with just a few simple techniques that I will show you.

If your lawn suffers from have large bumpy areas or is very uneven throughout the whole lawn then lawn rollers are exactly what you need to even out your lawn. Firstly, if you are trying to flatten out some bumps, then you should cut back the turf from around the area that the bump is situated in. Cut the turf back around 4 inches so that when you replace the turf it does not leave any bare patches. Once you have carefully rolled back the turf from this area, you will need to get a shovel and remove the excess soil so that the earth is level with the rest of the lawn. Now, carefully use your lawn roller on the earth moving the your roller backwards and forwards slowly (try not to let the roller damage the surrounding lawn).

By using a roller for this process you are compacting the soil that your turf will be laid on and this helps the roots from your grass to burrow down into the earth and establish some strength within the soil. It is important that the roots establish themselves as this allows the grass to take in all of the nutrients from the soil and water that it will need to become lush and green. After the turf has been laid and you are happy with the position of it, run the lawn rollers over this area to compact the turf into the soil. You must make sure that you water the re-laid turf as soon as it is down otherwise the grass roots will not have the sufficient nutrients that it needs at this stage.

You can also use lawn rollers to sow new grass seed with a similar method. Clear the area where you want to sow your seeds of any debris and use the lawn rollers to make sure that the area is flat. Sow the seeds in this area and then run your garden roller over the area to make sure that you compact the seeds into the earth. By compacting the seeds it gives the seeds the best chance to burrow down and establish some good roots. Make sure that you water your seeds thoroughly once you have finished.

There are many great ways to use lawn rollers to get the perfect lawn. This article has shown you just two ways, but if you want more tips then visit Matt Berry’s Lawn Rollers website.

Lawn Boy Mowers – Quality and Reliability Built In

Published by L.A. Remodeler under Yard Equipment

Lawn Boy mowers have been around for over 70 years and are built on a solid history of quality and reliability. The company was originally started by Ole Evinrude, who started the Evinrude outboard motor company. The technology and know-how behind the outboard motors was used in the motors for Lawn Boy lawn mowers, which is one of the reasons they’re so well known for their motors.

The Lawn Boy company has changed ownership a number of times over the years, but the quality of their equipment has remained consistent throughout their history. They’re currently owned by Toro, another well-known name in lawn mowers, but kept as a separate brand of their own.

One change that has happened over the years is that they have started using motors from other companies, such as Honda, Tecumseh and Briggs & Stratton. They’re still very particular about the models they use, however, so the reliability hasn’t changed.

All of Lawn Boy’s current models are walk behind mowers – they don’t make any riding mowers, in spite of having introduced new zero turn technology several years ago. Their prices range from approximately $250 to $350, depending on the size and output of the engine and the size of the mower itself.

There are several places you can buy Lawn Boy equipment, but you’ll probably find the best deals online. Amazon.com and other websites sell them, and even with shipping costs you will usually save some money compared to your local lawn mower shop.

Keep in mind that when you buy online, however, you won’t have the same kind of service and support as you would if you buy from a local dealer. Because Lawn Boy uses common engines in their mowers from well-known engine manufacturers, this isn’t as big an issue as it seems since most lawn mower repair shops will be able to work on the engines if you have a problem.

Just be sure that your local shop can get other Lawn Boy parts if you buy online however. Having to ship the mower back and forth to a service center will quickly eat up any savings you might have found online.
