I love living in New York! I get to live in a neighborhood almost as old as America itself. It’s the kind of ‘hood that’s fading away with the Yuppies’ penchant with knocking down buildings and putting up condos. It’s the kind of place where people nod at each other, sometimes even know each others’ names. I’m also blessed to be situated in an old brick walk-up, probably almost a century old. It’s a shame, but these places with “age character” also come with some inherent problems with their age. No elevator, drafty windows (and walls), shaky steps.

The apartment complex was broken-down when I first arrived in the city. Vestibules scented of bum urine, doors without locks, and my bedroom had some disappointing attributes. Nothing looked “nice.” Thank God, my Super realized that renovating everything would be worthwhile in the long run. We worked out a way to “pay” him by my paying for renovations, and we were on the way! First step is to find your New York restoration construction company.

As the people in charge of our New York restoration, corporations were hard to choose. We were forced to look around for a NYC Restoration Corporation and select the one we thought was best. Then, we drew up plans, worked out a budget, and got approval from the Super. Finally, everyone signed off on a contract, and away we went!

Sure, it was noisy. It was kind of a pain in the butt, honestly. But the transformation was incredible! When you suddenly see that stupid wall knocked down for the first time – the wall that’s inexplicably cutting off access from the living room – you’ll be overjoyed. Our New York restoration company fixed up the bathroom and the kitchen, then moved on throughout the apartment. We had real electric plugs! The kind where you don’t have to buy 16 adapters just to plug in your laptop!

I can’t tell you how great it is to be able to live in a neighborhood and building like ours AND have the joys and benefits of a modern condo! It’s amazing. I’m the envy of all my friends. Every time I fretted about having a contractor in my house, first thing in the morning, I look over at the new kitchen/living room area that knocking down a stupid wall added. Now I can have wine with my friends and watch a movie, or have a dinner party for more than say… the maximum of maybe 3 people who could fit in my apartment, before the renovation.

I won’t go on to recommend one New York renovation company over another, but I will say that doing your research is important and valuable. Try looking up online all the various New York restoration corporations who’re available, and read reviews on Yelp or Google. Make sure you get everything on paper, and make darn sure your landlord’s got his signature on everything, too.

I don’t know if our situation was unique, but we couldn’t be more happy with our apartment, the way we were treated by our york restoration corporation, or how quickly everything came together. Before you dismiss this out of hand because someone else owns the property, remember: you have to pay someone for the right to live where you live. Why not pay the guy who’s going to make your apartment into a living dream? Our York restoration construction was a dream come true. For me, and probably for you, too, it’s well worth the headache.

Lefty is based in New York City and spends his time with construction york restoration, doing whatever possible to make his apartment more beautiful and livable day in and out. He plays softball in the summer and enjoys fishing when out of the city.

A vinyl siding is made up of polyvinyl chloride or PVC. It is related to the vinyl that is found in gutter and window materials. The major benefit of using a vinyl-made item is it requires minimal maintenance.

The major challenge is how to properly install the vinyl siding in one’s home. Here are the basic tips to successfully install vinyl siding:

1. Get a room to work by tying back away from the wall of the house the branches of trees and shrubs. Remove any hindrances in installing the vinyl siding. Items such as shutters, lighting fixtures and downspouts might be needed to move. Remove the unwanted caulking found in the junctions which are placed between the windows, doors and old siding so that the accessories will suit better.

2. For uneven walls, nail 16 inches of one inch by 3 inches furring strips from the base to the wall’s eaves. Do the same around windows and doors. Level any low spots so that the work area is a flat surface.

3. Look for the house’s lowest corner by using a mason’s line. From the lowest corner, measure the manufacturer’s specified distance. Use a chalk to draw a line around the whole house.

4. The chalk line serves as a guide. Having this guide, the starter strip should be nailed at the bottom of the whole building while leaving 1/4 inch of space between ends every time two ends meet together.

5. Start installing the corner posts for the inside and outside. Have a 1/4 inch gap between the eaves and allow the post to extend at least 1/4 inch at the bottom of the previous siding.

6. The J-channels are then installed on all sides and on tops of all windows and doors. The J-channel must then be notched to supply an edge that has leak corners. Lastly, install the J-channel on sloped eaves and at the end walls.

7. Next to nail is the under-sill trim that are placed under the windows and along the horizontal eaves.

8. Continue by installing the panels of the vinyl siding. Work all the way up from the starter strip. Spread out the joints with 4 inches of distance.

9. The panels should be overlapping at 1 inch from each joint. The overlapping should not occur on entrances or places that are hardly visited in order to lessen its visibility.

10. See to it that in every fifth course (or sixth) the run is leveling and do not push the panels upward against the prior row. All the panels should be hanging loose.

11. In notching a panel that is fitted to be placed under a window, place a mark in the area where it will be cut out. Start cutting from the panel’s top with a tin cutter. Then, with the aid of a utility knife, snap apart horizontally the panel.

12. Make a hollow area to the cut edge by using a snap-lock punch. This should measure 16 inches on the center. After this, shove into place the siding panel.

13. Lastly, turn the attention to the horizontal eaves, split the panel using a fine-toothed circular saw. Use the snap-lock punch in punching the cut edge. This should measure 16 inches on center. Then shove into place the panel.

Remember that the procedure on how to install vinyl siding may vary. One manufacturer may have different installation steps of the product from the other manufacturer. So, it is advisable to carefully read and follow the instructions.

Please click these links if you want to know more about how to install vinyl siding or how to install vinyl siding in general.

There are a number of designs that you can consider when choosing your conservatory. But it can be confusing to differentiate between them. Here we give you a brief guide to the most common conservatory designs that you are likely to be faced with.

1. Victorian – The Victorian style conservatory is the most popular style of conservatory and is probable one of the most versatile. Its main feature is a bay style curved front that is normally designed with 3 facets, its pitched roof and ornate ridge details.

2. Edwardian – The Edwardian style of Conservatory carries the same elegant pitched roof design, ridge cresting and finials of the Victorian Conservatory. However they are rectangular or square in shape and this gives the optimum interior floor space allowing more room for your furniture. It is also possible to ‘clip’ one or both of the corners to achieve a Victorian-esque look while maintaining the effective use of the floor area which is one of the advantages over the Victorian conservatory style.

3. Pavilion – The Pavilion conservatory design is a variant on the popular Edwardian conservatory and with its elegant shape it will transform even the smallest of gardens. Pavilion conservatories create a stunning visual impact both internally and externally and with the high pitch of the roof they offer a real sense of height and space.

4. Lean To – The Lean-To conservatory is probably the simplest in design and originally the most popular conservatory option. With its clean lines and timeless appearance the Lean-To conservatory style is still a very popular choice today. Heights can be adjusted to suit both two story houses and bungalows. There is also the option to put hipped ends and also a bay feature to create a more elegant look.

5. Bespoke – Of course, bespoke conservatory designs are ideal for tricky sites or just simply for people wanting something different. Built to your own specifications bespoke conservatories offer the ultimate in flexibility and choice. Whether you desire something simple or intricate your conservatory designers should be able to guide you through the whole process advising you at every stage on how to make the most out of your new space.

Do you want to know more about Conservatories and Sunrooms?

So, you have come to the decision that it’s finally time to dig into that home improvement project you have been fantasizing about for who knows how long? Well, great! Carrying out a successful renovation project at home without surpassing the budget and managing to boost the overall value of the home is perhaps one of the most glorious moments of home ownership that the average home owner will ever get to experience, and it is something that can become quite addictive as a matter of fact. The thing is that achieving that is not quite as simple as it seems: many home owners delve into their big project without really thinking things through carefully, and end up committing some pretty serious mistakes as a result. Hence, planning is everything when it comes to carrying out such colossal projects (or even tiny ones), and that’s precisely the topic we’d like to dwell on here.

Before making any major decisions about whether or not to go the DIY route or to hire the assistance of professional home renovation experts, a home owner needs to have a very clear idea of what it is they have got in mind for their given project. It’s always best to be conservative here, as few things are as unpleasant as biting off more than you are able to chew (especially when you do end up choosing the DIY route). Furthermore, if you don’t have a clear scope for your project you risk being taken advantage of by cunning renovation experts that have a clear sense of how to add on more aspects to your project (and more digits to your overall price tag) without you really noticing it.

Beyond merely setting a scope for your home improvement project, you will want to do your best in terms of shaping the project along sensible lines. There are several ways to get this done, and before consulting with the experts (if that is your eventual plan) there are various resources, electronic and otherwise, that can help you put a semi-official appearance on your grand plan. First of all, simply seeking out informed opinions from family/friends that have undertaken similar projects is a good idea, as you stand to learn a lot from their successes and failures; then, there are very specific (and in many cases highly user-friendly) software programs intended to help normal home owners generate design and construction plans for a given project. Such software programs in the best of cases will help alert the home owner to potential problems in their plan, thereby saving them the hassle of discovering such issues in the middle of work.

Finally, if the decision is to use actual home improvement professionals, then the home owner will want to choose carefully whether or not to go with a general contractor that will oversee various skilled tradesmen, or to directly hire specialists for a limited and highly specific set of tasks. The former option implies less responsibility but a larger price tag, whereas the latter option may save some $ but will require more focused oversight and coordination of efforts.

Whether you’re planning on a simple cabinet refacing project or a full window replacement project, make sure you choose a quality source of materials and know-how. That means choosing Sears, as their staff is highly knowledgeable and Sears windows and cabinets all come at the best price.

When it comes to building a new sunroom or refurbishing the exiting one, the idea immediately seems to take a back-seat with most of us, considering the enormous sunroom prices. However, sometimes we end up paying extra due to our ignorance of several matters and hence it is absolutely essential for us to have a clear idea about all those factors before we start the construction.

Factors determining sunroom prices

Some of the most important factors primarily responsible for determining the sunroom prices are as follows:

Location and climatic conditions

Insulation material and other things used in construction

Total area of the sunroom

Design of the sunroom

Furniture prices

Labor charges

These are some of the most primary yet significant factors which have a significant effect on sunroom prices.
Insulation rates

Since sunrooms are meant to trap the maximum amount of heat, insulation of the room is one of the prime factors and hence choosing the correct insulation material is extremely important. Nowadays, there are a wide variety of insulation materials available in the market-like glass, plastic, fiberglass, wood, aluminum and PVC glazing. You also can opt for insulated wall and insulated ceiling option; however, the costs might vary depending on the size of the room. Always try to see whether glazing would solve your purpose or you require wall insulation since the latter might be slightly costlier than the former one, since you have a wide variety of glazing materials to choose from, as per your budget. However, always remember that good insulation materials means greater durability and better comfort, though the initial prices might be slightly high.

Shade and blanket insulation

Apart from wall insulation and glazing, one can also opt for summer shades or winter blankets to keep their sunrooms warm. These blankets are however, not a trustworthy means of insulation and are not very effective on exterior surfaces. The other available option is to install a powerful heater, either internally or externally to heat the sunroom, though it might be far more costly than the other available means since it would draw a good amount of electricity.

All these factors together combine to determine the sunroom prices which might vary depending on the size of the room and location of the house. Generally, constructing a sunroom might cost something around $250 or more and in case of refurbishing with new furniture the costs might be slightly lower.

So, now carefully research about the cost of furniture and insulation materials from a nearby store and plan your budget accordingly, so that you have a clear idea about your sunroom price.

Looking for more information about prices? Phil Caxton is a syndicated columnist on different resources. Read additional info about home additions or sunroom materials at http://www.allsunrooms.com/estimated_prices.html.

The tent or roof like structure that provides shelter to people from sun and rain is called awning. The materials which are commonly used in the manufacture of awnings are corrugated fiberglass, polycarbonate, and aluminum. These materials are long lasting and do not get damaged even during bad weather. Awnings are also made from canvas, plastic and fabric.

There are various types of awnings like retractable, cool, outdoor, window door patio, shade and deck. Each and every type of awnings has sub-types of their own. Now let us get into detail about retractable awnings.

Introduction to retractable awnings

- The name of this awning itself suggests, it has the capability to retract (it can be folded which helps to protect the awning).
- This type of awning is available in sufficient slope forms, which enables them to give protection from weather. It is made from fabrics, which are water-resistant.
-	It is considered to be the tool of the architects, because on installation, they capture the artistic style naturally.
-	On usage, it adds some beautiful angles and colors to the front of the building. Installation is easy in this type of awning.

Features to consider while purchasing retractable awnings

1.	First consider, from which material the awning has been made.
2.	Take into account, in what way, the awning provides shade below, where it is installed and also inside your home.
3. See that the awnings you purchase are made out of good fabric and also consider the coating on the fabric, to check how they are resistant to water.
4.	Look out for the awnings that blocks maximum amount of UV rays.
5. Retractable awnings could be purchased through online or from the shops. So, before purchase, evaluate all the possible options.
6.	Do not make purchase from the suppliers who sell awnings on discount rates.
7.	Better clarify all your doubts regarding the installation process from the person, whom you make out purchase.

Uses of Retractable awnings

-	It provides protection and shade for the elements and the shade provides primary comfort.
- On usage, it brings down the indoor temperature to a certain extent and minimizes the use of air conditioners, which eventually reduces your energy bills and saves energy.
-	It protects the outdoor areas from rain and wind.
-	It serves as an allergen protection and it provides lots of privacy.
-	It could be used for any kind of outdoor areas like patios, seating areas and other indoor areas.
-	It is possible to use the retractable awnings in accordance to the different weather conditions by changing the slopes.

There are hundreds of different and exciting home renovation ideas that are out there, it’s definably worthwhile making sure that you know all about them. By knowing all of these renovation ideas you stand more of a chance of being able to do home renovation projects by yourself.

The Bathroom

We’re going to start with one of the most important rooms in the house, the bathroom. Many people want to upgrade their bathroom, but it seems like such a complicated project nobody is sure where to start. The first thing that you need to do is look at your current bathroom. Work out the size and shape of it, and also work out how much you could afford to spend on doing it up.

You should also decide what you would like to achieve by doing this renovation project. If you think your bathroom is a bit on the small side then perhaps you could consider taking down walls to make it bigger. Of course this would require a bigger budget, and more skills.

You may be considering a much simpler project such as just changing the color or flooring in your bathroom. Even doing something this simple still requires a lot of thought; you need to make sure you will be happy with the complete outcome.

The Bedroom

You can have a lot more fun in the bedroom than the bathroom, and that’s true for decorating too! Sorry I couldn’t resist! Most people don’t see your bedroom it’s very personal for most people! This means you can do pretty much whatever you want in this room.

Saying this however, you do want some sort of theme throughout your bedroom. The best way to go about this is to decide on a color scheme. Chose a color that you really like, don’t settle for one that you will get bored of after a while. If you already love your sheets then why not choose colors to complement this.

No matter what you are planning to do to renovate your home windows you should make sure that you do them right. For this to be the case you should really talk to a professional, ask them for some advice. This way you can be sure you’re doing everything in the right order and you’re doing it right. It’s a good idea to make sure you know how to do everything before you start spending any money!

No matter how old your car is or what condition it is you no doubt want to change something. People get bored of their houses and want to continually improve it. Every few years you’ll feel the urge to renovate your home. It might simply be to make your home more comfortable, increase the amount of space, or even to make your home more valuable.

Normally your home does what it should very well, which means you don’t need to do extensive renovation very often. However you may still want to increase the living area so entertaining is easier, or just to make the living areas more efficient. Simple projects may be enough to stop you being bored with your home, simply replacing the light fixtures or something more complicated such as knocking walls down to make rooms larger. You could consider extensive projects such as electrical rewiring or plumbing.

You may need to replace the cabinets in your kitchen and bathroom in order to gain some extra storage space. This can be a very expensive project. What you can do in your home is only limited by the size of your budget! You could just patch up holes and make it look better, or you could completely redo the whole wall and make it look fantastic.

Patios

If you are already happy with the inside of your home then why not consider the outside? The garden is one of the best rooms in the whole house! Why not add a patio so you can make better use of this space? If you add a sliding door to your back room then you can get easy access onto your patio. If you like decks, then you could also add one to your patio. Decking is great for summer nights and can be great fun for entertaining.

Often as soon as you’ve finished one home renovation project you immediately think of a new one to do! This is likely to happen until you have done the whole house. If you wanted to replace broken appliances in your kitchen it could trigger you to replace all the cabinets too. The possibilities are endless; just try not to get carried away!

Home renovation is very expensive and may require you to talk to your bank about finance. It is important that you try to pay for one project before you start the next one, you really don’t want to get carried away!

Vince Paxton’s detailed reports can be found on numerous online publications tied to information on storm protection. Writing for publications, the columnist expressed his skill on themes related to vinyl casement windows and storm protection.

A bathroom is a small room in your home where you can really let your imagination go and your personality show. Remodeling a bathroom and redecorating a bathroom should be a task that opens up a realm of possibilities. Whereas the rest of your home is made up of many public and semi-private areas, it is a very private area where you can feel free to have it represent any style or theme that you wish. Whether it’s the kids’ bathroom that you want to make look as if it is an underwater aquarium or your own personal sanctuary that represents an ancient Roman bath, your bathroom should reflect that.

With the dramatic increase in home building and home remodeling, you will find an amazing variety of styles in every aspect of a bathroom remodel. No longer are you limited to a choice between either a square white porcelain sink or the round white porcelain sink. Today, the sky is the limit. You can find sinks and lighting fixtures made of everything from porcelains, ceramics, stones, metals and glass. Bathtubs come in an array of sizes and many offer Jacuzzi-like jet sprays and whirlpool options. Shower stalls are no longer limited to a single overhead spray, but have several multi directional jet sprays and massage options. Many of today’s bathroom fixtures look more like works of art than these fixtures. In fact, many well-known designers and entertainers have segued from designing clothing and home décor into bathroom and kitchen fixtures and appliances.

Don’t be afraid to look around and grab ideas for your bathroom remodeling job from many different areas. Utilize Internet resources, books and magazines and displays and products at your local home improvement stores. Also, with the abundance of home improvement shows on television, you are sure to get at least a few ideas and many of the items that they used in the shows are usually listed on their websites. One other suggestion of another place to get re-modeling and decorating ideas for not only the bathroom but for any room in the house is to tour model homes of the new housing developments in your area. Many of these model homes have been decorated by some of the top designers in your area and you can glean loads of information and get a lot of ideas from them. Not only that, but you will probably see a number of new and unique products and fixtures installed throughout the house that may catch your eye.

When you remodel a bathroom don’t be hemmed in by convention. Get as many ideas from as many sources as you can and create the exact space that you’ve always dreamed of – even if you’ve always wanted one that looks like the inside of a pirate ship!

To a real estate investor remodeling green may mean the money they are going to make from renovating that ugly house they just bought for a SUCH A DEAL price. To others, it means they want to preserve the earth and not waste energy, building materials or resources when they remodel their home. Some homeowners and contractors look for and use only products that are advertised as being green, or being manufactured in a way that is as non-toxic as possible. They may put in new appliances and HVAC units that are energy efficient. And build new properties with an eye to energy efficiency in the construction methods applied. That’s all good.

Another way to remodel green is to think about what may be thrown in landfills when it could be used again. Some demolitions are done too quickly and roughly to save much of anything. Taking some time there can keep hundreds of pounds of good building materials out of the waste stream. I once had someone tease me on a job site because I was taking some time to remove a few nails from lumber. I had found some 14 foot long hardwood 2x6s with no knotholes and two or three nails in each of them. Hey, I’ll spend 15 minutes any day to save $100 worth of wood from being dumped. I doubt you could get lumber that good anymore in most places without paying a stiff premium price. Bring me a truckload, please. You woodworkers know what I’m talking about. Yes, there IS wood pretty enough to admire and remember. Think about each component that you are removing, or working on, during a renovation and decide on a way to remove it with the least damage. Someone may want it if you don’t. Haste DOES make waste!

One of the tricks I’ve done is to keep the area of a countertop that has to be cutout for sinks, etc. I install legs using common items I may have recycled from somewhere else and add those little caster wheels that can be bought cheaply in most large home improvement stores. The ones with locking mechanisms are nice. All you have to worry about is smoothing the cut edges and installing edging or simply routing the edge into a nice shape. You can have a matching rolling portable countertop space without spending much time or money. Oh yeah, don’t forget to see if someone can use the old countertop and sink for a garage parts washing basin, garden potting center or maybe a fish cleaning station for the outdoors folks.

If you cruise the tool aisles, I’m sure you know about the great numbers of handy dandy gadgety items for sale. Nail sets are nice, but if you don’t have one, try using a nail with a slightly larger head than the one you are driving. A tap or two with the nails head to head and your nail is set. Ever seen one of those plastic nail holders that keeps you from banging your fingers and waking the neighborhood cats with your wailing? Try a small piece of cardboard instead. A little notch and your fingers can be protected. Or the plastic spreaders sold to apply many materials. You can use the plastic lids found on many food containers in the grocery store. You can cut a round lid in half and have a nifty spreader of a custom size. Or the plastic pans sold to hold a small amount of the liquid materials for outrageous prices. Try one of those plastic tops they use on bakery cakes, or the microwave convenience food plastic bowls instead . Instead of buying a sanding block, why not try using a small scrap piece of wood from your projects? Egg cartons can be used to organize small items. It’s my mission not to let any plastic have only one use in my household. Only problem is, if it is a while before you need them, these saved treasures may change your nickname to pack rat, but multiple use recycling is remodeling green so who cares? You get the idea. Go for it!
