Types of Epoxy Paint
Concrete floors, garages, cabinets, tiles and other surfaces need a strong paint coating so as to weather humidity and exposure to other elements of nature. People have now started considering epoxy paint coating for these surfaces. The growing popularity of this paint has resulted in an increased interest in knowing about the materials and components of this product. People want to know about this product and the following lines will give them some insight into the basic types.
There are only two major types of epoxy paint available in the market. The first one is the solvent-based paint that can be used only in conjunction with certain chemicals. The second one is the water based paint that is cheaper and can be used on all surfaces without much difficulty. The second type of paint is more popular than the first one so much so that around two-thirds or even more paint jobs are now done with water based paints.
The first type of paint is generally used in industries where heavy processes are carried out and a high quality paint job is required. Solvent based paint is perfect for these industries as they want a perfect finish in the paint job. They can also afford the high prices of solvent based paint given the economy of scale and extensive use. Another feature that makes this paint better for industrial work is its smell. Solvent based paint is quite smelly and adhesive and cannot be used perfectly in a home or garage. People will simply be put off by its smell and the area where the paint has been applied will have to be cordoned off for days.
The second type of paint is water soluble and is cheaper than its solvent based counterpart. It can be easily mixed with water and gives perfect finish to garage floors, bathroom tiles, cabinets or any other surface where it has been applied. It has minimal smell that goes off within a few hours and there is no need to seal the area for days on end. Final finish of this paint is relatively comparable to solvent based though it is not as strong as the latter.
Affordability and ease of use has made the water soluble paint a preferred choice among homeowners. They can buy it easily and can complete their paint job within hours. There are no issues with smell as well.
