Shoe Storage Cabinet – How the Right One Will Help You Become More Organized

Published by L.A. Remodeler under Cabinets

When we come home after a long day many people take off their shoes and leave them near the door. If you have many family members this can cause a real clutter. The solution to keeping your family’s footwear organized is to use a shoe storage cabinet. But what is a shoe storage cabinet? How do they work and what are the different types? Read on and all will be answered.

Cabinets for storing shoes can be a valuable piece of furniture for anyone’s home. These cabinets can improve your current furnishing because they are stylish, dazzling and fashionable.

The purpose of these storage cabinets is to help store in an organized manner many pairs of shoes. There are large shoe cabinets that can stock up to about 60 pairs of your footwear while there are also small ones that can pile up to 20 pairs of your collectible footwear.

These cabinets are found in either single or two doors design and available in various sizes and colors and are often made from hardwood like cherry wood or oak wood.

Also the depth of the closet is normally two inches longer compared to a regular shoe size, seldom causing a trouble for a person with large feet. But there is a shelf type shoe closet for this problem.

You can jeopardize the space of your shoe closet and may reduce the number of shoes you can stock in it if you store your shoes in a particular position to have your large shoes fitted in. For this dilemma, you can have a drop down door style of shoe cabinet. This type can at once put your shoes in a position.

In selecting the most appropriate shoe cabinet, it is always wise to identify how many pairs of shoes you will be actually storing. It is also useful to get rid of the footwear that you are not using anymore.

You can always check you local home improvement stores to give you idea of what might be the appropriate type of shoe storage cabinet that will suit you best. Checking online is also an alternative. Always make inquiries, check its features and do not forget to get the retail price of every item.

Keep in mind that it is not wise to grab the least expensive shoe cabinet on sale without making sure it completely meets your needs. It is advisable to check the shoe closet first-hand to determine if it is tough and of good quality material.

These days, you can now shop for a shoe storage cabinet without leaving the comfort of your own home. Shopping on the internet can let you check a lot of online stores and easily find a great bargain. Some online stores have customer reviews which can be very helpful to you in comparing shoe cabinets that will suit you well. Comments posted by consumers are also visible. There are also websites in the internet that caters to auction. These auctions can offer you a good opportunity of getting a first-class shoe closet for a very reasonable price.

Simple Ways to Add Color to a Kitchen

If you’re like most families, you probably spend quite a bit of time in the kitchen. So why not make it more interesting by adding some color to the room? Maybe you don’t want a drab and dreary kitchen, but you don’t know quite how to add the right touch. Here are some easy ways to add color to your kitchen so you can change your décor from boring to fabulous.

Add Color by Dressing Up Your Table
Dress up your kitchen table as an easy way to add color to your kitchen. Add a colorful tablecloth or placemat set, or display some colorful dishware. Add flowers in a vase or basket to the center of your wood dining table to add some instant color to the room. Look for colors that will both add interest to the look but complement the overall décor.

Add Color with a Backsplash
Don’t let your kitchen backsplash be boring. You can always keep things simple with a neutral-colored tile or laminate, but you also have to option of venturing out a little and making things colorful. Tiles and laminates come in all different colors. If you want a totally unique look, try arranging colored glass that’s been broken up in a random pattern on the wall. Not only will you create a personalized, one-of-a-kind backsplash, but you’ll be able to get a some different colors worked into the décor.

Paint an Accent Wall a Different Color
If your kitchen is painted a neutral color, then paint an accent wall to incorporate some color into the décor. Choose the wall that’s the least covered with cabinets or appliances. Be sure to pick an accent color that will work well with the rest of your kitchen’s décor. For a more subtle look, go with a matching color. But if you want the wall to really stand out, pick a color that’s complementary.

Take the Doors Off the Cabinets
When you take the doors off your kitchen cabinets, you can display all your colorful dishes and other tableware. If you have neutral dishes, add some pop by painting the insides of the cabinets a contrasting color. You don’t need to remove every cabinet door in your kitchen, but instead choose anywhere from one to four prominent cabinets and make them your “color cabinets.”

Use Window Treatments to Add Interest
Another great option is to utilize the window area in your kitchen to add color. For your valance or drapes, choose a color that will really stand out in the décor. Red or purple window treatments would be a great way to add color to the room if you have, for example, a black-and-white or otherwise neutral kitchen.

Just because you want to incorporate some color into your kitchen doesn’t mean you have to redecorate the entire room. Rather, build upon what you already have to add your own colorful touches here and there.

Kitchen Cabinet – How to Select Your Dream Solid Wood Kitchen Cabinets

Published by L.A. Remodeler under Cabinets

When choosing a kitchen cabinet, the first step to do is to select your favorite wood species from the most popular selecting circle: maple, cherry, ash, birch and oak, and then the door style and the color for the door. Selecting processes for most of kitchen cabinets will follow these 3 steps.
While in order to make the cabinet reflect your unique style and taste to stand out of the normal kitchen cabinet that exist in every common family, details are the most important things to achieve this effect.

The first thing to be taken into account is the above-cabinet treatments. Combine crown or classic crown molding with one of the several decorative molding inserts a look that reflects your own personal style. Whether you’re classic or contemporary, moldings can make a dramatic difference. Details are the things you need to pay attention to. If the curve sharp and smooth? A good workmanship and quality knife used to cut the molding will have very sharp and smooth curve and clear profile. If you use your figure to feel the cutting, you can tell if it is smooth or rough. Also, you can look at the pattern is consistent, for example, if the flower crafted on the column is vivid and consistent for the cutting? Will some place of the cutting too shallow or too deep? Consistency shows the workmanship, the knife and the equipment of your kitchen cabinets manufacturer.

The second thing is decorative pediments that provide a classic look for entertainment centre cabinetry or other furniture pieces. These pediments are perfectly fit the classic people and make their kitchen give off the fragrance of holiness.

The third thing is below-wall cabinet treatment. Don’t leave your wall cabinets with an unfinished look. Choose one of your favorite moldings to complete the look of your wall cabinetry at eye level and you will find what a dramatic difference it makes in your kitchen cabinet.

The forth thing is decorative legs. Cabinetry is furniture, to add great style to your furniture with decorative legs to complete the look of base cabinetry.

The last thing to complete your design is using the wide selection of onlays, ornaments and corbels which will add a touch of elegance to your cabinet and make your cabinet stand out of common ones easily.

Details really make difference. Whenever you buy a kitchen cabinet, to take these factors into consideration will really make you surprised at your own masterpiece and be proud of yourself. After all, kitchen is the center of your home and for most part of your family life. Hope your dream come true.

Cabinet Hardware – What’s So Hard About Working With It?

Published by L.A. Remodeler under Cabinets

Remodeling kitchens often involves upgrading kitchen cabinets. Don’t overlook an important, although small, feature that will really give your new kitchen cabinets a finished look – the hardware.

Cabinet door hardware is a necessary item when installing kitchen cabinets, but more than being just necessary, it can also be very decorative. And after all, as long as it is being done anyway, shouldn’t it look as nice as it possibly can?

There are several types of cabinet hardware available. Hinges, door pulls, door knobs, and drawer pulls are the items that can be readily seen and can add that decorative touch when installed.

Keeping in mind your overall theme for the room, you have many choices in color and design of cabinet door hardware. Black, gold, silver and pewter are common colors for cabinet hardware although many other colors like blue and white are available for more colorful choices. Designs are even more varied, from plain and unobtrusive to ornamental and showy. With some careful consideration, you can choose hardware including hinges, pulls or knobs for both doors and drawers that will match each other and be complementary to your kitchen cabinets.

Let’s start with hinges. The hinges on your cabinet doors can be invisible if you wish, or seen in part by using half surface hinges. The type of hinge you choose may depend in large part on the type of cabinet doors that are being installed. For wood doors, the choices of hinge are many. Strap hinges, dummy hinges, butterfly and colonial hinges are just a few options that will make your search interesting.

Door pulls and drawer pulls bring a bit more of your creativity into the selection. Do you have a theme in your kitchen? Or do you have a passion for a particular item or design? Door pulls and drawer pulls are one area where you can bring a truly personalized look to your kitchen cabinet hardware. For a rustic cabin look, choose pulls that look like twigs or evergreen trees; or maybe you’d like to bring moose, wolves, or bears into the kitchen for a touch of wildlife décor. Celtic, shaker, and California styles add different looks that can accent the style throughout your room. Maybe you wish to stay in a kitchen minded theme, and want to add door pulls and drawer pulls resembling silverware or teapots.

Door knobs are the truly fun part of choosing new cabinet hardware for your home. With designs and patterns that will truly exhibit your personality and tastes, door knobs are extremely visible and of high use on your kitchen cabinets. Coordinating with your overall theme in the kitchen, your possibilities are seemingly endless, with countless choices of food, animals, objects, shapes, and designs at your disposal. Simply choose your style, and have fun!!

Decorating with cabinet hardware is not limited to your kitchen. Every room in your home has some type of cabinet, and every room may have a theme or design that you can carry through to display on the cabinets. Use cabinet hardware to add a finished look to the cabinets in every room of your home.

Cabinet Hardware – There Are Many Decorative Options to Choose From

Published by L.A. Remodeler under Cabinets

For some reason, people think that cabinet hardware is simple around for the practical purpose of letting us use our cabinetry. Sure, we couldn’t open and close anything in our kitchen or bathrooms without it, but in addition to providing that valuable function, it also has a spectacular look to it as well.

Really, when it comes to cabinet hardware there are a lot of eye-catching options to choose from, which is the result of the many materials it can be crafted from along with all the finishes that it can have. For example, you can get hardware that is crafted out of any number of stunning metals like brass, bronze, stainless steel, regular steel, aluminum and even wrought iron. These metals can then be finished in different ways including being brushed, burnished, oil rubbed, polished, dulled, and even have a matte black finished applied to them. Along with the metal materials, there are others as well like wood, plastic, porcelain, glass, and even ceramic while additional finishing options include being stained or infused with different colors along with having designs painted on them.

With all the material and finishing choices comes cabinet hardware of all types and styles, so, you can effortlessly find something to match the current style of your cabinets and your space. Like, there are those of the modern variety, others that have more of an antique feel, some that are on the contemporary side, and even those traditional options are still around that everyone has grown to love. You can even get exotic, art deco options that are very interesting to look at as well.

Now, if you see the value in purchasing new, attractive cabinet hardware for your cabinetry, one thing to keep in mind when doing so is to get everything new. Like, you don’t want to buy new knobs only to have the old hinges sitting on your cabinets. The two will clash and will send messages to everyone who sees it that you don’t know how to decorate. So, make sure that you get all new hardware, including the knobs and hinges along with drawer handles, drawer slides, and cabinet catches if you don’t have self-closing cabinets.

If you want to easily find just the right cabinet hardware for your cabinetry, the thing to do is hit the internet for some shopping. That’s right, going online and browsing through the different stores is breeze, what’s even better is that when you do come across something that you like, it generally is at the best prices around. And, you don’t even have to leave your home to do it because your purchase will be shipped right to your home.

In the end, if you are one of those people that think cabinet hardware just around to serve a practical purpose, think again. There are now many eye-catching options to choose from, perfect for really adding a lovely decorative touch to your cabinetry.

Bamboo Kitchen Cabinets – Beautiful, Strong, And Environmentally Friendly

Published by L.A. Remodeler under Cabinets

While bamboo kitchen cabinets may not be the first thing that leap to your mind when you are considering a kitchen remodel, you might be surprised to learn of the many positive features bamboo kitchen cabinets have to offer. They are superior to most hardwoods in strength; they have exceptional dimensional stability, meaning they are much less likely to warp than hardwood; they will bring a uniquely exotic look to your finished kitchen; and they are the perfect choice for the ecologically concerned.

Bamboo kitchen cabinets are made from a natural plant material which can renew itself completely within five years, while hardwood forests, once harvested, will take decades to recover. Bamboo is as durable as red oak, and because its grain is absolutely straight and knot free, it produces bamboo kitchen cabinets which are free of structural weakness and finish beautifully. Bamboo has been used as a building material for centuries in Asia, where the bamboo plant is regarded as a symbol of health and long life.

The Good Looks Of Bamboo Kitchen Cabinets

Bamboo kitchen cabinets will add a sleek, clean, and yet warm and traditional look to your kitchen’s appearance and their light weight makes them very easy to install. Bamboo kitchen cabinets are also available as stand-alone units in a variety of striking styles and colors. Natural bamboo is available in various shades of green, grey, black, and shades of yellow. Most homeowners choosing bamboo kitchen cabinets opt for pale yellow or a somewhat deeper honey color.

Bamboo kitchen cabinets will introduce a touch of the outdoors into your home, and its delicately-colored edge grain simply cannot be duplicated in hardwood cabinetry. The warm richness of their carbonized honey tones or lighter yellow “blond” hues will give your kitchen a welcoming look, and their vertical grains will accent your bamboo kitchen cabinets’ long sleek appearance.

Replacement Hinges – Stop The Squeak

Published by L.A. Remodeler under Cabinets

The squeaky wheel may get the grease, but a squeaky hinge on your cabinets may result in you shopping for replacement hinges. If you keep your kitchen up, looking like a show model all the time, there is not much more annoying than the kitchen seeming to mock you, by squeaking each time you open a cabinet.

Squeaks happen. They’re natural, but that doesn’t mean you have to live with them. When you first hear the squeaky door hinge, you need to decide what is causing it. Maybe it really does need some grease. Squirt a little WD40 in there and see if that solves the problem. If not, maybe one of the screws has come a little loose. Grab a screw driver and tighten them up to see if that makes a difference. Only tighten them as far as they need to go, don’t keep twisting thinking you’ll make it stop squeaking if you tighten the screw enough, that’s only going to hurt your cabinet surface. If these solutions don’t work, it’s time to go on a hunt for replacement hinges.

The instinct many people have when going to get replacement hinges is just to go to the store and see what gets their attention. This is alright if you are planning a complete overhaul of your cabinets, but if you’re not, you need to make sure you have the right hinges for the job so you don’t end up having to fill old holes, drill new holes and repaint or refinish the cabinets

Take the squeaky door off its hinges. If you haven’t done this before, it is relatively easy. For smaller cabinet doors, you can just remove the hinge with a screwdriver, for larger, pin hinges, you will need a flat-head screwdriver to pop the pin out to get the door to come off. If it’s sticking, you can lightly tap the back of the screwdriver with a hammer to loosen the pin. Once you have gotten the door down, you will need to use a screwdriver to remove the hinge pieces. Put at least one of the hinges in your pocket to take on your shopping expedition.

As you look for replacement hinges there are a few things to keep in mind. If the door hinges you are replacing are from a cabinet, do you want to change all the cabinet hinges out? If not, you need to look for replacement hinges that match the ones you removed, or you will have a tacky set of cabinets where everyone knows which ones are the replacement hinges. If its individual door replacement hinges you’re looking for, you have a little more flexibility, but still want to make sure the hinges you select go with the rest of the room décor.

After selecting your replacement hinges, take them home, and install them. Open and close the door a few times. That silence you hear is your victory over the squeak of a worn out hinge.

As the owner of many online sites, author Jennifer Akre, shares her insight on how to make your indoor living space more comfortable with classic cabinet hinges, elegant door hinges and stylish hinges.
