The humble loudspeaker has a rich story to tell with regards to its history, littered with some of the greatest minds of the 20th century such as Thomas Edison, Nikola Tesla and Ernst Siemens. However our story begins with the pioneers of the telephone system where the first real world need for a loudspeaker came to light, after all the telephone wouldn’t have become the success it is if we couldn’t hear the person on the end of the line! In 1876 Alexander Graham Bell patented the first ever electronic loudspeaker design, as part of his new telephone system which, as we all know now, was a roaring success. It wasn’t always plain sailing however, there was some competition to the electronic loudspeaker from a compressed air based solution although this suffered from a poorer quality of sound in comparison.

These initial speakers were fine for use in telephones where no great volume of sound is required, however there was a growing demand for more powerful speakers and in 1898 that demand was met with the first moving coil based speakers. It was with these movable coil speakers that two enterprising gentleman setup the first public loudspeaker system, the humble speaker had made the transition to loud speaker and was capable of being heard for large distances from the actual speaker. The original patent for movable coil speakers was filed by another name you may recognise, Edward Kellogg and with the initial moving coil speakers using electromagnets, it wasn’t till the price of permanent magnets began to drop that the true power and dynamism of speakers was to be revealed.

In the 1930s the first combined speakers began to appear, featuring the standard mid range speaker that we were all used to, but also an additional woofer speaker to produce low frequency sounds and a tweeter speaker that would reproduce the highest frequencies of sound. This multi part approach allowed a single speaker to output a much broader range of frequencies and hence, quality of sound. It was during this period that the first improvements in sound quality were made by isolating the speaker out of the way of external vibrations and echoes, usually upon some sort of makeshift speaker stand.

As demand grew for high quality speakers, they were originally introduced on mass by chains of cinema’s who wanted to provide the best possible audio experience for movie goers. Often these large scale audio systems would feature a whole range of woofers, mid range and tweeter speakers, carefully positioned on quality speaker stands that vastly improve the quality of these early speakers. The early pioneer of these larger speaker system was Altec, whose “Voice of the Theatre” system became industry standard in cinemas and movie houses.

These days modern speakers still resemble their early predecessors on the outside, however this is not so true on the inside thanks to the help provided by computer aided design and modern materials and manufacturing methods which have improved the overall quality of sound produced by ten fold and the quality is certainly noticeable.

Tamara is the author and owner of Speaker Stands and is obsessed with all things audio, with a hand picked range of home cinema speaker stands she can help you find that perfect item.

Projector Hire

A projector is an optical device that projects a beam of light, that is used to project an image or moving images onto a screen. Projector hire is commonly used for business meetings, sales presentations, conferences, movies and education. Event planners and those that use projectors for public display consider projector hire as an important investment for their events and usually seek advice from an audio visual consultant. There are a lot of projectors with varied functions, purposes and features to choose from and the trick is knowing which of those best suits your needs. If your needs for a projector vary to suit a range of different events, then you will get the best value from always hiring a projector instead of purchasing one.

If you are looking for projector rental you definitely need to consider all aspects of what you need the projector to do and the material that you want to project. We will explain simply below what are the purposes for the different types of projectors are but first here are some examples of different projectors suitable for different purposes.

There a variety of needs for different types of projector hire which include PowerPoint presentations, projecting of images and photos, movies, outdoor cinemas, photo shows at weddings and birthdays, shop and window displays, sports and television events, live video feeds from entertainers, bands or live sporting events, projecting stage and artistic backgrounds, projecting images onto buildings, business and promotional videos, video conferencing, home theatre, projecting computer images for education. There are so many kinds of projectors for hire in today’s world however there are two main technologies used in more than 95% of projectors which are:

1. LCD which stands for ‘Liquid Crystal Display‘. LCD projectors contain three separate LCD glass panels, one each for red, green and blue components of the light image signal.

2. DLP which stands for ‘Digital Light Processing‘. The DLP chip consists of thousands of tiny mirrors. Each mirror represents a single pixel. Most DLP projectors have a single DLP chip. There are very expensive DLP projectors that can have up to 3 DLP chips for each of the red, green and blue channels.

A home theater system is all the rage now. People are fed up with hooliganism on the streets and in cinemas and are finding it simpler to stay at home. If you drive to the pictures, you could get stuck in a traffic jam or get harassed at traffic lights by people cleaning your windscreen without having been asked.

Once you get to the cinema, the price is sky high and the sound track has to be way too loud to drown out the yobs that talk all the way through the movie.

People have decided that it is just not worth going to the cinema any more. The majority of people who go there are kids who have nowhere else to go. Home-owners have voted with their feet.

However, they still like to watch movies so the answer is to build a home theater in your own house, which is no longer a costly undertaking.

It is as costly as you want to set up a home movie set-up. If you have a spare room, that is fantastic, but otherwise you can establish a home movie theater system in your living room. If you want to set it up in your living room, you can either hook it up to your present television or you could have a drop-down projection screen.

You will have to verify what the difference in price is, because they change, but you can get a projector and colossal screen for less that a forty inch wide screen TV.

There are stacks of articles on which the best system is and how to set it up and that is usual. People have their preferences. I would like to recommend that you spend some money on furniture.

The furniture in a theater is often quite luxurious, so if you want to recreate the experience of being in a cinema, you will need some good, not only decent furniture.

If you are establishing your home theater system in a spare bedroom, this is even more important, because there is a temptation to scrimp on furniture that will not be used or seen every day.

If you believe that you will be using the home theater a lot, then you really must splash out on good chairs. Loungers even and a massage chair if you can afford it. Imagine that! A massage each night after work whilst you watch a film or two!

The important thing concerning chairs is the cushion or / and the padding. If you want the ultimate cushions or pillows, try memory foam pillows or chairs with memory foam padding.

If you are a bit short of money and want to install a system bit by bit, get a good home theater system and some huge throw cushions. You can put a couple of these on the floor and just sink back into them while you watch your movie.

Owen Jones, the writer of this article, writes on a number of subjects, but is now involved with Marriott bedding.

Finally you’ve managed to save up the money for that home cinema projector of your dreams but which one should you get and what should you be considering when looking?

The purpose of this article is to give you a good understanding of the differences between the home cinema projectors out there and which features are more important that others when choosing.

Different Types of Home Cinema Projectors

A home cinema projector produces an image on a projection screen by sending light across the room and the main difference between models is the way in which that light is transmitted. Currently the main three types of home cinema projectors are called:

• DLP (Digital Light Processing)
• LCD (Liquid Crystal Display)
• LED (Light Emitting Diode)
• CRT (Cathode Ray Tube)

Each of the terms in brackets is the type of technology used to transmit the light and you really don’t need to understand the technical differences between them all to enjoy a great movie experience.

I have listed below each different type with the pros and cons in each case.

DLP

DLP home cinema projectors are usually the smallest of the bunch and give out a really good picture quality for the price. They create the image by using millions of tiny mirrors which reflect each pixel of light to produce the image you see. The drawback to this technology is that it cannot transmit red, green and blue (RGB) all at the same time and in doing so can give a rainbow effect if you move your eyes from side to side quickly during the movie. This can get quite annoying and some people are more sensitive to this effect than others.

This technology requires a light source (lamp) to produce the image and unfortunately these lamps work on the same physics as normal lamps and so you are going to have to replace it every year or so to make sure you keep the best high light level projection.

LCD

This technology was around before DLP but actually came into its own in the home cinema projector world afterwards. It sends the images by projecting a light source behind a transparent sheet which continuously redraws the image.

This technology is now quite popular in the home cinema circles but once again you will need to change the light source (lamp) every year or so.

LED

LED home cinema projectors are relatively new at the time of writing and are still quite expensive. They produce the image by using many small LEDs which can produce RGB light at incredibly high speed. The added benefit of this technology is that the projectors don’t require a separate light source.

CRT

CRT home cinema projectors are rarely seen much anymore as the technology is quite old and bulky and does not fit in with today’s lifestyle. At one stage they were the only technology out there.

3D Home Cinema Projectors

I’m sure you’ve heard of 3D technology as there have been a lot of new films produced which use this technique but what exactly is it and how does it work. Also, is it worth you paying the excess to get hold of it?

Well, at present there is not much content (DVDs, Blu-ray discs) to be able to use this technology to its full but it can be fun to add it to your specification. The problem is because the technology is new, the cost is high and so you will need some deep pockets to pick one up.

You will still need to wear the 3D glasses to get the best out of this new home cinema projector technology and so if you can get over the way you look from the outside whilst wearing them then this may be for you.

Afterthoughts

Whatever type of home cinema projector technology you decide to go for you need to make sure you get out to your local specialist to see it with your own eyes. At the end of the day you should go for the one that you like the look of best and this can only really be achieved by getting out there.

If you would like to take advantage of our FREE consultation to discuss your own home cinema projector requirements or any other part of the design then please go to http://www.HomeCinemaSystem.co/Welcome

Analog TVs are out and converter boxes are in. Transmission companies have placed down the lid on analog signals. For consumers who are affected by this endeavour, this entails a shift from analog TV sets to high technology converter boxes.

For several years, a good number of viewers have settled on analog or analogue television sets which show television audio and video information via transmission of analog signals. Examples of these analog television systems or functions are NTSC, PAL, or SECAM. Analog signals are oftentimes of low quality. Due to the increasing improvement of television technology, global analog TV broadcasting has been shut down. In 2009, around ten countries had already completed this effort.

This includes Luxembourg, Netherlands, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Belgium, Germany, and the United States. Many more countries are planning to start with this conversion while other countries have already started the process of conversion. In some countries, conversions were quite a challenge. Some households were not able to convert immediately due to the lack of preparation. Conversion was made easy by means of various conversion boxes. What are converter boxes? These are electronic tuning devices which converts analog signals to digital signals. These allow a seamless transmission of data providing the people with an excellent viewing experience.

A digital viewing experience permits high quality and quantity of signals. Due to its compressed nature, it allows a greater capacity and eliminates interference more in comparison with analog ones. To facilitate better conversion and transmission, one must be wise in choosing which converter to use. The Zenith Converter Box is one of the most affordable yet efficient converter boxes in the market. This converter box is by far the best digital television conversion equipment due to its excellent features and specifications.

The “Zenith converter box” strongly works – outperforming other converter boxes in the market. In comparison to your old analog television set, this box produces clear and high quality pictures. Not only that, for with the touch of a button on your remote, you may immediately find it out with the use of the screen program information function. The zenith Box also permits you to easily view other channels by means of the sub-channel function. You may ask if this is easy to use or handle. Yes it is! It is supplied with an RF cable which makes it easy to be hooked up on your television sets, while the remote control, which is already provide it, makes channel surfing and manual setting of functions easier. Parents need not worry about children watching shows with violent content as the Zenith Converter box has its own parental control function. This is made possible by the box’s V-Chip technology. Not only that, the converter’s advanced closed captioning function allows access to closed caption by means of the CC button found on the remote control. You may choose fonts, font sizes, colors, and the likes for a better digital closed caption. In addition to that, this converter box has energy saving features to help the environment. The Zenith Converter Box really does make TV transmission and signal conversion very easy and affordable.

If you want to learn more about “Zenith Converter Box” visit our web site http://zenithconverterbox.com

If you are soundproofing on a budget, you may be tempted to look at using some everyday items around the house for soundproofing rather than using specially made soundproofing equipment. This could be potentially fraught with danger. Often the materials we use in place of the real stuff turns out to be unwieldy, short-lasting, and almost as expensive. Here are a few common materials that people will try to use for soundproofing, but really shouldn’t.

Egg crates – This is probably the most common “soundproofing” material that people will try to use. They will go to amazing length to procure large quantities of this stuff, but unfortunately it does diddly squat. Egg crates have no sound blocking ability. They may have some sound absorption activity, so the sound in the room may sound nicer, but they won’t stop any sound from annoying the neighbours. Being made out of cardboard, they are not very durable either. Any moisture and they will begin to get mouldy, becoming smelly as well as being inefficient.

Mattresses – Nailing mattresses to the wall is another commonly recommended budget option for soundproofing. Strangely enough, this could actually work in some circumstances – if you have covered the entire wall and acoustically sealed in between the mattresses, then they will have some sound blocking ability. Of course, the downside is that they are bulky, ugly and relatively expensive.

Regular foam – Again, this may provide some benefit in sound reduction. But you are better off using the specially designed acoustic foam. Regular foam is more likely to break down and perish, while not being as effective as the proper materials. The amount of money you would save by using this product would be lost in the extra soundproofing needed, and the need for replacement as the material perished.

Carpet – Nailing carpet to the walls is another way to achieve little at great effort and considerable expense. Carpet has no soundproofing abilities at all. It does provide some acoustic enhancement by absorbing reflections, but you will achieve no soundproofing from using this product.

Cellulose Foam – Filling your walls with this foam will have negligible benefit. It might seem like filling your walls with insulation is a guaranteed improvement in soundproofing, but this is not necessarily so. An empty “dead” mass of air (i.e. well sealed) is actually a very effective sound blocker. Filling this with foam will probably not improve your results at all, and in the worst case scenario could hinder it. If you do want to use insulation in your walls, then a specially designed product such as Rockwool will give you the best results.

When it comes down to it, it is a lot smarter to use proper soundproofing materials rather than repurposing materials that just aren’t up to the job. You will get better results, it is easier to do, and your efforts will last longer. Unless you are really strapped for cash, have access to a very cheap supply of one of the above materials and don’t mind things going pear-shaped, you should stick with the proper materials. It will save you money and headaches in the long run. The best cheap soundproofing is the kind that you only have to do once.

About the author: Simon Andrews is a soundproofing enthusiast.

Think about what makes the experience better when you are watching movies at home. Of course the television is very important and then whatever component you use to watch the movie is important too. However, the thing that is a big help for the television and DVD player is great, fantastic, expansive sound. It takes the audio portion of the movie to really make the experience incredible.

If you think about it what is it that makes a horror movie so scary? To bring up the tension in this genre of movies the music is very important combined with the other sounds. Consider hearing drips of water in an abandoned mine or the sound of footsteps as the bad person comes up on their victim. Without these sounds the movies doesn’t have the same impact.

The effect of this sound is profound as it makes the movie much more intense and have more depth than just seeing the picture. You can experiment with this by putting on some headphones while you view a horror movie or an action film. You will be transported to a different dimension, expanding the viewing experience tremendously. This is what makes going to the movie house so much fun, the volume on the sounds and music is very loud, you can feel it in your body.

This sound makes a movie so much more fantastic and you can experience this in your home. What you need to do is to research a bit and get the best quality surround sound system for your living space, be it an apartment or a single family dwelling. But before you purchase it know what room it’s going in, if it’s a small room or a bedroom then you don’t have to buy the largest system on the market.

An option in this genre is a bar system made up of a sound bar to be placed in front of the television or on top of it and then a sub woofer to place beside the television. It is not a true surround sound system but it mimics the surround sound by creating the sound of speakers all around you. This is great option for a smaller room where you don’t have to have so much power, but still want the experience of the sound. You won’t have to take up a lot of space with this system or have a bunch of power you can’t really use.

It’s essential that you go to Selbyacoustics.com right now to see their fantastic inventory for home theater. They have all the pieces and connectors at a fantastic price such as your vga cable and plasma brackets.
