Annual Feng Shui for the Year of the Rabbit (2011)

Published by under Feng Shui

Every residential and commercial building is affected by energy whether you can see it or not. Each year, millions of people buy, read, or come across books on how to go about setting up the arrangement of items, furniture and special features in the living space. 2011 is the Year of the Rabbit, in Chinese, it is called the Yin Metal Rabbit, or ‘xin mao’. Before we begin evaluating the Feng Shui cosmic energy for the year, we must understand that Feng Shui affects our mood, psychology, luck and many other factors in life. By going with the flow of our own cosmic system, and aligning the energy around us, we can live a much more harmonious and auspicious life. The old saying goes “One Destiny, Two Luck, Three Feng Shui”. Feng Shui has a definite bearing on our lives whether we choose to believe in it or not. Obviously education and the things we choose to do also affect our luck. If you are in a good cycle, with Feng Shui, you can enhance the good luck, on the other hand, if you are in a bad cycle, Feng Shui can help you reduce the negative impacts of bad luck.

The following is a summary of what everyone can do with limited knowledge of Feng Shui. Please note that if you are uncertain about the Feng Shui configurations of your house, hire a professional to evaluate your house. Aside from annual Feng Shui energy, you may need to take into consideration the use of other traditional Chinese methods such as Flying Stars, Eight Mansions and so forth. The annual star also has an impact on the Flying Stars which is determined by the time factor. The use of trinkets, ornaments and statues may be considered. Although some may consider them superstition, certain animals such as the Dragon, Kirin, and Pi Yao Dogs, if placed properly, can have powerful defensive qualities. If you intend to make Feng Shui changes for 2011, be sure to do so after February 4th 2011.

The Grand Duke of Jupiter (82.5º – 97.5º East)

Every year, the Asians who are into Feng Shui are always concerned firstly about where the “Grand Duke” resides for the year. It is an area where there is energetic imbalance due to its interactions with the planet Jupiter and the cosmos. This is an area that should not be disturbed. For the Year of the Rabbit, the Grand Duke is located in the East, therefore, avoid renovations and major activities in this area of the house. The inauspicious 5 star also moved into this sector which makes the east sector an even more difficult area to deal with. Things to beware of and remedies in the East sector:

• Avoid red and earth colors in this sector.
• Place six coins in a row or metal objects here.
• Brass, bronze, silver or gold dragon ornaments are also recommended.
• Pi Yao Dogs (preferably two) are of very popular ornaments used to appease the Grand Duke.
• If you have a different sector of entry into the house, try to use that instead of the east sector. If the east entrance is unavoidable, try not to bang or slam the door upon entry.
• Calabash or Wu Lu Gourd can also be used.

Annual One White Star (Northeast)

This year, the Romance Star flies to the Northeast sector. For those who are interested in enhancing their romance aspect of your lives, or increase the possibilities of meeting people, place metal and water objects in this area of your living space. The sound of metal such as a metal chiming clock or music box can do the trick. Water is also advised for this area. If you were to choose one or the other element, definitely go with metal since the Northeast area represents earth. With metal, you are providing a bridge between the earth and water energy of this area.

Annual Two Black Star (South)

The Two Black Star is often referred to as the sickness star. For 2011, this is not a good area at all as the sickness star is enhanced by the fire from the south. If the south area of your house is the bathroom, guestroom, laundry or storage room, then it is of less concern to you. In Flying Star Feng Shui, when the 2 and the 9 come together, there is a higher potential of misfortunes.

Remedies:
• Place six metal coins in this area.
• Avoid major building work or renovations. If you need to do so, hire a professional to select a date for renovations.
• Brass ingot can be used to protect wealth.
• Metal Wu Lou Gourd (Calabash) is also recommended to reduce the effects of the sickness star.
• Avoid colors of red and the use of fire (eg. Candles and electronic equipment) in this sector.
• Some books that I have come across in Hong Kong recommended placing wood in this sector to fight the earth energy. Personally, I’d rather reduce the bad energy before fighting it.

Annual Three Jade Star (North)

This star is not as bad as the Two Black Star nor the Grand Duke yet you have to be aware of arguments and disputes in this area of the house or business unit. The remedy for this area is simple. Since the Three Jade Star possesses wood energy, utilize red colors and fire-related objects to reduce the strength of the wood. Avoid using water features in this sector for the year unless and Feng Shui consultant has diagnosed this area properly utilizing Flying Stars. Do not hang wind chimes or place metallic instruments in this area.

Annual Four Green Star (Southwest)

This is often referred to as the academic or scholar star. It governs not only academic and artistic talents, but also other parts such as career, travel, wisdom, education and interpersonal relations. Unfortunately, this star flies into the Southwest sector which possesses earth energy, as a result, the academic star is weaker for this year due to its conflict with the earth energy. In order to raise the energy of the academic star, you will need to place four bamboo sticks in a water vase. Do not place plants with earth in this area as you can end up creating conflict in this sector for those who are studying. Avoid placing metal objects as it will weaken the academic star. Having a wooden bookshelf or pagoda in this area is also auspicious.

Annual Five Yellow Star (East)

As mentioned earlier about the Grand Duke, this sector is not suitable for major activities. It is not all doom and gloom when we deal with Feng Shui. The key is identifying the bad sectors and finding the proper remedies. Many traditional Chinese cures involve the use of salt water or six Chinese coins in this area. Those methods may work but it is more important to avoid disturbing this sector. Utilize more metal in this area. Please refer to the above description on the Grand Duke for remedies in this area.

Annual Six White Star (Southeast)

The Six White Star is a good star for those who want to enhance their career luck. This is also considered to be a military star which is favourable for those who are politicians or officers. Since the Six White Star possesses metal energy while the Southeast possesses wood, we would require a bridge in order to enhance the metal. To do this, place both fire and earth related items together. Logically, you would have the wood feeding the fire, and the fire strengthening the earth, then the earth can strengthen the metal. You can also place a real quartz crystal or crystal spheres in this area to activate the energy of the White Star.

Annual Seven Robbery Star (Center)

This year, the ‘Broken Soldier’ star is imprisoned in the center palace. This star represents robbery, deception, theft, gossips and back stabbing. This star must be taken care of or there may be possibilities of loss of wealth and break-ins. Do NOT use red colors in the center of your house and try to avoid candles and electronic equipment here. Metal chimes and metallic instruments must also be avoided here. The best remedy for this sector is to place water here. If you intend to use water features in this sector, ensure that the water flows slowly. Water that is crashing or vibrant in this area would accidentally activate the robbery star. If in doubt, you can always upgrade your security and alarm system.

Annual Eight White Star (Northwest)

Out of all the stars, the eight star is the most auspicious since it is governing the flying star for this period until 2023. The auspicious earth energy of the eight star resides in a metal area where its fortunes are reduced for 2011. For those who like to place crystals at home, this is the area where it should belong in for this year. The best quality of handpicked quartz crystals is recommended and they have to be place properly and visible in the northwest for 2011. Wealth and fame will also be found in this area of the world and I will cover this next month in my annual predictions for 2011. If your bedroom is located in the northwest, you can also consider placing an amethyst crystal here to strengthen the Eight White Star. The northwest should also be free of clutter. Many Chinese tend to place 8 white pebbles aligned in a shape of a cross like the image shown in the stars chart. The white pebbles can also strengthen and solidify the earth energy in this sector.

Annual Nine Purple Star (West)

This is supposed to be a very auspicious star since it is considered a ‘future’ wealth star with an auspicious influence in this current period. For 2011, the Nine Purple Star, representative of fire energy is in conflict with the metal energy of the west. To make matters worse, the Annual Three Killings reside in this sector. Do not place metal objects in this area as you may end up disturbing the negative energy of the Three Killings. It is best to hold back renovations or major activities in this area of the house for 2011. Remedies for this area would include water and wood objects. Green plants or fresh flowers grown in water would be your best solution. If you are interested in placing Chinese ornaments to take care of the Three Killings, many would use 2 kirin dogs facing the Three Killings.

Summary

This report presents you with many options in terms of what you can do to disperse the negative energy for 2011 and enhance specific sectors of your home. This is by no means a cure-all method as the Annual Flying Stars is only one aspect of a complete system of Feng Shui. In order to maximize the use of Feng Shui, you may wish to consult a professional Feng Shui practitioner who would be able to calculate the Flying Stars of your house based on time, and incorporate the Eight Mansions theory to locate sectors related to your health, wealth and career. Remember that energies of the house change often and is by no means static. The incorporation of a professional Four Pillars of Destiny reading can provide a greater accuracy in determining all your favourable and unfavourable directions.

Feng Shui is not just about balance and harmony, it is also about going with the flow of your own cosmic system. It is very difficult to maximize the use of Feng Shui methods without the understanding of the person and the cosmic energy that one possesses.

I hereby wish everyone a happy and healthy Year of the Rabbit!

Ultimate Elegance With Glass Knobs

Published by under Kitchen Remodeling

Slowly over the years, glass doorknobs have started to win over the hearts of homeowners looking to inject their place with an elegant, rich and clean atmosphere. A common misconception about these knobs is their durability. While most people think they’re just about as fragile as regular, thin glass, this simply isn’t true; most such doorknobs are in fact made out of a thicker, more resilient type of glass, and have been found by many to be major beneficial factors when it came to boosting the looks of their house.

Many doorknobs of the past were concentrated around the notion of practicality, and offered little to nothing in terms of visual appeal. More and more people are deciding to ditch their old ways and revert to the newer, more stylized glass doorknobs. If you think about it, this practice makes a lot of sense, at least in countries living in accordance with western values, according to which aesthetics and good looks are a mandatory part of life.

A major advantage offered by such handles is their versatility: glass matches with pretty much any design out there, meaning that you can install them on whichever door you please, and you can be practically sure that everything will fit nicely together. Since glass is also easy to manipulate and shape into all kinds of exotic designs, it makes for the perfect opportunity to experiment with various different designs and styles, without necessarily having to worry about making everything match together. With this material being so popular today, it should come as no surprise that there really is an unbelievably wide array of styles available, each one unique and stylish in it’s own way.

All things considered, if you’re willing to invest a bit of extra money, finding the perfect knobs for your doors (resilient, sleek, practical) can end up being a very short quest thanks to the development of the glass handles industry.

The Quickest and Most Effective Way To Get Rid of Clutter

Published by under Cleaning Tips

Perhaps you are getting ready to move out of your current home. You’ve been packing up boxes and discovering that there is a lot more that you thought. Or maybe you are just moving things so that carpet cleaners or painters can come in to do their work. Regardless of why, you’ve discovered that you need to de-junk your home. For most people, this is a scary idea. To the naked eye, it’s hard to know what is worth keeping and what needs to go. One option is to have a trusted friend work with you on this project. I helped a friend de-junk one time and it seemed to help her a lot. Another option is having a system in place that takes the guesswork out of the process. For this process all you need is some boxes, a marker, and some tape.

Before you start sorting through anything, set up the boxes and label them as follows: junk, sort, donate, and emotional withdrawal. If you are a serious packrat, this may be all the further you get that first day. But when you are finally sick of seeing those boxes sitting around, you are ready to de-junk for good.

This is where the sorting begins. Do not be tempted to put everything in a bunch of “sort” boxes and call it good. This will get you nowhere fast! Start with the donate box. A good rule to work with is this: if you haven’t used it in a year, donate it. That gives you four seasons to use it. No excuses about saving it for the winter. If you haven’t used it for four seasons, someone else can use it. Find your favorite charity. Make an announcement at church. Check with family and friends.

Next is the true “junk” pile. It’s outdated, expired, or broken, put it in the junk box and don’t look back. This is a good place for puzzles that are missing pieces, socks without partners, keys to automobiles you don’t own anymore, and the like. These are things you can’t even donate! So why should they be cluttering up your home?

The “sort” box takes all the things that you want to keep but they need to be moved in order to be useful. Nails in the bathroom? No! Earrings located with the pencils? That’s not very useful.

Finally, the “emotional withdrawal” box is for those things you just aren’t ready to part with. The idea is to put things in this box until you are ready to give them up.

Lastly, if you’re looking for new camera to take pictures of your clean home, you can find information about some of the best compact cameras online at sites such as http://www.BestCompactCamera.net to help guide your decision.

Wall Mirror Hidden Security Camera – Product Review

Published by under Home Security

The whole purpose of hidden camera is to catch somebody doing something they shouldn’t be doing. That something is usually illegal, immoral or both. The reason hidden cameras or spy cameras are so effective at catching people is because they have no idea that they’re being watched. You see a hidden camera is just board camera placed inside a common everyday item that you see everywhere. The more common the item is the better.

Those products are usually working products. Using those working products keeps the deception at a high level. A good example is the mirror hidden camera. The mirror is 15″ x 12″ x 2.75″ in a natural wood finish frame.

The camera is powered by an eight hour rechargeable battery pack with no wires or cords to plug-in. Options include black-and-white or color images and wired or wireless transmission. Wireless transmission can send images up to 1000 feet. If that isn’t far enough you can get the high power option which adds another 1500 feet for 2500 feet total-nearly half a mile.

The mirror hidden camera will fit into any setting home, office or business making it one of the most versatile hidden cameras you can get.

The most common uses for spy cameras are for business security, home security, as a nanny camera to keep an eye on your nanny or babysitter, and most recently to catch a cheating spouse, partner, boyfriend or girlfriend doing something they shouldn’t be doing.

It is a sad fact that we have to resort to these kinds of things but nice to know that there is a way to either reaffirm your trust in people or catch them in the act.

Unfortunately, there are no specialties stores that specialize in cheap spy cameras. You can get the best selection, best prices and most convenience by shopping online.

When you need to keep an eye on what’s going at your home, office or business get a Hidden Security Camera.

Choosing the Best Framing Nailer – Pneumatic Air Nail Guns

Published by under New Construction

A pneumatic framing nailer gun can do a great range of jobs, from stud work to joists. You can nail down sub-flooring and even build trusses. You can fasten sheathing, nail decking, construct fences, and more. With a framing nail gun you can do all the rough wood work and more on just about any residential building. It’s a very important part of constructing a wood structure.

There are many different framing nailers on the market, from popular brands like Hitachi, Senco, Max, Bostitch, Paslode, Porter Cable, and Dewalt. How are you going to choose the best one for your needs? Since you’re not intending to buy all the pneumatic framing nailers out there, you need to educate yourself on what each nail gun has to offer.

I put this short guide together to help you do just that: choose the right nailer for your needs.

Questions to ask before you buy:

Weight – Are you concerned about the weight of the nail gun? Some builders look for the lightest framing nailer because they can work longer with less arm fatigue. That’s the benefit of a light-weight nailer. Other framers don’t really mind the extra 1 or so pounds. I have personally used guns as heavy as 9 pounds and as light as 7 pounds and can work just about as fast with either one.

Size – Size is also an important factor to some contractors and DIYers. A more compact sized framing nail gun can fit into tighter spaces to shoot the nails in the right spot. Some framing nailers can fit between studs and joists as narrow as 12 inches. Others are more bulky and you’ll have a hard time with tight areas.

Power – Pneumatic framing nailers range quite a bit in the power to drive nails. Some nail guns can shoot nails up to 3-1/4 inches long. Others can easily drive the larger 3-1/2 inch nails. Many framers don’t need to shoot nails any larger than 3-1/4 inches long. Others, on the other hand, prefer to have the extra power to drive larger nails when the need arises.

Features – What feature do you need in a nail gun? The modern guns have a vast array of features available. Some have selective triggers, where you can switch between contact nailing and sequential actuation nailing with the push of a button. Tool-free nail depth adjustment is also available on some framing nailers. A few are approved for use with specialty nails. It all depends on what you need (or want).

Now that you know what to think about before buying a framing nail gun, it’s time to make my suggestions. In this link I have put together the best pneumatic framing nailers. Here is the link: Top 6 Pneumatic Framing Nailers. These nailers are highly recommended by many building contractors.

A Fun and Unique Kitchen Backsplash

Published by under Kitchen Remodeling

If your kitchen is starting to look a little drab or like it is missing something, consider adding a backsplash to your walls. By adding some texture to the walls between your countertop and cabinets, you will bring some character and new life to your room. The more traditional backsplash would be your basic ceramic tile in some sort of pattern. If you are interested in working outside the box, there is a fun and unique backsplash that just might work for the kitchen in your luxury house plans.

While not everybody enjoys sipping on a glass of wine, many people do. If this sounds like you, a wine cork backsplash would be a fun idea. Your backsplash will cease to be something that is simply there, it will be a great conversation piece and a great way to put to use those wine corks you have stored away. It seems like most people who enjoy drinking wine simply can’t bring themselves to throw away a wine cork. A backsplash made of wine cork is a great way to display the many different bottles you like the best.

Your first step will be to measure approximately how many square feet of backsplash you will be installing. Depending on the size of the kitchen in your southern house plans you could need quite a large number of corks to complete this project. The next step is to get an estimate on how many corks you will need. Count how many corks it takes to fill up one square foot and do the math to figure out your total. You will then need to start collecting. Since you could need well over 1,000 corks, you might need to recruit friends for help or even visit wineries to ask for their used corks.

After you have all your corks it is time to start installing. Screw a thin, but strong, piece of wood that has been cut to fit your space into the studs along your walls. Make sure all of the edges are also securely fastened. You are now ready for the fun to begin. Placing the corks on your wall is as simple as a hot glue gun. Make sure you get your pattern set the way you want it and get to work gluing. Your luxury home plans will start to take a dramatic change. When you are done with your gluing, take a step back and enjoy the result.

A wine cork backsplash is something that is so unique, it will get your friends talking. Even though you spend every day in your home built from House Plans and More luxury house plans, you will find that you spend a little time every day rediscovering the corks you glued on. This is a great way to give your southern house plans a little pick-me-up that is relatively inexpensive.

While your House Plans and More luxury home plans might have called for a ceramic tile backsplash, you will be more than happy with your homemade creation!

The Advantages of Having Heat Pumps in Your Home

Published by under Heating & Air

Heat pumps are devices that can produce both heat and cool air. These are very popular in very cold regions because it is durable and consumes less electric power than conventional heating and cooling device. It acquires heat from environmental sources like air, water, and ground which are free and available all year round. These are excellent heating alternatives to electrically produced heat or cold air, since it only consume less fossil fuel.

A simple description of how heat pump operates are as follows. Hot air from the source is absorbed by the outer coils connected to the unit. With the aid of a special liquid, heat is increased to a boiling point then transferred to the vents in a form of vapor to be released in the room. The hot air in the room is absorbed then released outside while being condensed, turning it to liquid form. The liquid flows back through the reversing valve and used to repeat the process once more.

Heat pumps are more efficient since it only requires less electric power to produce hot air compared to more conventional heating and cooling equipment. To illustrate, one unit of electricity can provide 3 times more heat. With traditional heaters, the ratio is one unit of power is required to produce one unit of heat.

Although initial installation of heat pump is quite costly, in the long run you can save more on your electric bill. Plus, think about the benefit it brings to the environment. Not only that you can save electric power or fossil fuel in the long run but you are doing steps to protect nature. When installing the unit in your home or office, think about it as your investment to a healthy environment.

In Sweden, households that have been using heat pumps for 3 to 8 years have noticed a significant drop in their electric bills. And because of these, more than 300,00 houses have installed it in their homes.

They were able to gain back the cost they have incurred from the initial installment of their heat pump through their accumulated electric bill savings.
